About Us

Write elegantly with Buna Pen, Made in Ethiopia by Ethiopians

Our Story

  • Buna is a name that immediately conjures up the pride of all Ethiopians. Ethiopia is known worldwide for its wonderful coffee. The Kerchanshe Group has over 15 years grown into the largest producer and exporter of coffee in Ethiopia. Founded on the principles of bringing fairness and transparency to the coffee value chain, while satisfying customer demand, Kerchanshe is also a company with heart and vision. Directly and indirectly, it impacts the livelihoods of over 1 million coffee growers throughout the southern and south-western coffee-cultivating regions of Ethiopia. The passion for fine coffee is coupled with consistent reinvestment, not only in improved infrastructure, technology and processes, but Kerchanshe also invests 10% of its annual profits into social responsibility programs, such as building schools and providing clean water to the communities it serves.
  • It is as a seamless projection of that success and passion for excellence that Kerchanshe formed a separate manufacturing group, the first product being the Buna Pen!!

Our Vision

  • By manufacturing our Pens Locally, we intend to raise the profile of Ethiopian manufacturers in Africa and Beyond, leading the market and inspiring all Ethiopian manufacturers to build on the pride of providing employment, boost the economy through import substitution and kindle the latent entrepreneurial spirit.

Our Mission

  • To stimulate and attract interest through educational support programmes.
  • To become the best selling ballpoint Pen brand and the number 1 household name in Ethiopia.
  • Building a continental brand following our success in the Ethiopian Market.

Message From CEO

It is with great excitement that we see Buna Pen really emerging as a leader in the Ball point Pen market in Ethiopia especially since it is made in Ethiopia. In market terms this comes after only a year of starting production, going through a 9 month quality trial period and then re-launching an improved Buna Pen with a fresh look in early June 2020. Despite Covid-19 and this being a traditionally slow time of the year, sales have exploded and we have had unprecedented enquiries.

We have expanded our reach into every corner of Ethiopia and look forward to continue to provide the peoples of Ethiopia with this top quality product at the right price.

We thank you all for your support and for being part of building Ethiopia’s future from within.
